Alia Bhatt’s Jigra Trailer: A Powerhouse of Emotion

In Bollywood punishment, nepotism is an equally widespread malaise only to meet the stiff resistance of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. There is no one who comes close to them in terms of all-rounder capabilities. A year that had everyone agog, Ranbir with Animal, and looks like Alia is all set to follow in 2024 with Jigra. The much awaited trailer for Jigra is finally here. A word of clarification is in order on what you saw a few weeks back – that was a teaser – that was a bit longer than teasers are wont to be, so everyone assumed it was the trailer. But today, the 3 minute trailer is out. And it is quite impressive.

Now the tone is positive and I can say after watching this trailer that this film can possibly come to the level of Animal. That film had sentiments, sequences, and a father- the one in whom the stick is hidden with a terrifying villain who was only shown in theaters. It had a perfect closure. Jigra also takes this idea: plenty of feelings, and a sister whose inner virtue is worthy enough to battle an entire nation for her brother. And on top of that, a jailbreak sequence is also added making it one step higher from Animal. The idea is to get her brother out of a prison, demolishing the walls of the prison thus, great action chaos, suspense and of course a terrific finale.

Last: when did you last time thought of seeing such cinema from bollywood where a heroine – yes yes! a heroine fights the mob to rescue a hero?! And this is a trailer so there is a fight in it, this is not just a fight it is world war! Considering the intensity of action scenes it is really very hard to think there is such an actress involved in the action. Vasan Bala seems to have created sets which have relation to bollywood, that in itself is not so impressive, the colorful treatment makes us feel in a different terrain that it’s in a Hollywood movie. The background music is so engaging that no one realizes even within 3 minutes of a period passing by.

Nonetheless, one of the recurring criticisms that viewers may express after seeing the film is that the plot of the film Jigra is practically 99% spoon fed to them. Very high expectations will always accompany an Alia Bhatt starrer, and after watching almost all the two-minute promos (the teaser and trailer), there seems to be more or less no room for any big surprises left for the theatre. But there is still a possibility that Vasan Bala might just turn the whole tide in the other direction. What I mean to say politely and indirectly is that ‘Jigra’ is a complex plot which is very easy to narrate to whoever cares to listen before the movie begins. But this movie is betting on how it is shown, not on what it is about. Jigra also follows a girl who dares to infiltrate a foreign prison to rescue her brother. The film’s premise will be fucked on how the film is made rather than the story. It is the manner in which the narrative is told that shall be the hero, along with high octane action and loads of emotions.

Did you happen to see the film Kill? The film was presented by Karan Johar quite the in your faces and even from the outside, the film is quite simplistic. No pertinent locations, no highlight locations – just some important actor sitting in a train booth, but they managed to support the entire film. But the presentation, O My God! Every one was blown away. This was unprecedented. There has never been such cruel violence in the history of Indian cinema and I doubt if anyone even attempted to imagine. The same is going to happen with Jigra. Don’t assume just because it’s a female lead the action is going to be minimal. Alia Bhatt is already stepping into the spy universe, consider screen presence of Shraddha Kapoor in Stree as the top position, after jigra she could be there with Alia. After watching the trailer, one is under a strong feeling that Alia is about to be Bollywood’s Lady Bachchan. More battle, more feelings, less conversation, we smash first – this trailer had smack the face of those who told that Alia is fit for beautiful roles or be a side character of some hero’s movie.

When it comes to content, Alia will sail through quite easily, but when it comes to the box office, she will be up against Stree’s rabid followers and the affection for Bhabi (Dream Girl 2). Vicky and Vidya’s video has gathered less buzz on the internet, but it has gained some good ground level cut. Comedy targets a broader family audience while Jigra has an interesting premise which is rather different so it might have a smaller audience who will watch it but i bet they will remember the film for ages.

Well, decision would be for you. After watching all these films, tell me, which one will you go out to see? There’s no need to be shy about it; just do it here and now, and don’t forget to leave your professional comments on the trailer.
